A thick slab of solid wood hangs flat on your wall with its bark edges still intact on both sides. Bracket fungus shelves grow from the face of the slab at staggered heights, wide enough to hold rows of standing books, potted plants, glass jars, and small sculptures. This is not a decorative accent shelf. It is a working bookcase carved from a single piece of wood.
The slab keeps its natural profile. The left and right edges follow the original shape of the tree, with bark, splits, and grain lines visible from top to bottom. The surface shows knot holes, weathering marks, and color shifts where the heartwood meets the sapwood. Nothing is hidden or sanded away. The bracket shelves are sanded smooth on top for stable book placement, and each one has a darker, richer tone than the slab face behind it.

Bracket fungus shelves that hold real weight
Each shelf is shaped like a bracket fungus growing flat from the slab surface: wide at the outer edge, narrowing where it meets the wood. The shelves are thick enough and deep enough to support a row of hardcover books standing upright. The staggered left-right arrangement means you can reach every shelf without books blocking the row above or below. Lower shelves are wider for heavier items. Upper shelves are narrower for lighter display pieces.
Gill carving along the front edge
The front face of every bracket shelf features hand-carved gill lines running from the slab attachment point outward to the rim. The gills are carved into the exposed underside and front edge where they face the room at eye level. On a piece this size, there are hundreds of individual carved lines across all the shelves combined.
Live edge bark slab
The backing slab is not a flat board. It is a cross-section of a tree trunk with the natural bark preserved on the outer edges. The thickness varies across the surface as the wood naturally grew. Some areas are thicker, some thinner. The face shows the full character of the original tree: medullary rays, checking lines, and mineral streaks that developed over decades of growth. Mounting brackets attach to the back of the slab and anchor into wall studs. All hardware included.
What goes where
Bottom shelves: books, heavy ceramic pots, a wooden bowl, a stack of journals. Middle shelves: a row of paperbacks next to a glass jar of dried herbs, a small owl figurine, a potted Pilea. Upper shelves: a bird carving, a candle, a trailing air plant, a single leaning book. The graduated shelf widths guide what fits naturally at each level.

What sets this apart
Wall bookshelves are common. Mushroom bracket shelves are trending. A full live edge bark slab with bracket fungus shelves growing from its face, each one deep enough for standing books and carved with gill detail, all from one piece of solid wood, does not exist from any other maker. This is the bookshelf version of our mushroom wall shelves, built to carry real library weight.
*The number of mushroom handles depends on the size, to make it appropriate to put books on.
